Terri Garland serves as Vice President and Senior Loss Prevention Counsel at Attorneys’ Liability Assurance Society, Inc. (ALAS), where she advises law firms about ways to prevent malpractice claims. She also works with firms' senior management and general counsel on compliance, cybersecurity, and risk management issues.
Before joining ALAS, Terri practiced as a litigation partner in the San Francisco office of Morrison & Foerster LLP, where she handled securities and antitrust cases, internal investigations, and other complex matters. She has significant trial and appellate experience, including co-leading the successful defense of a month-long jury trial of a securities class action seeking $20 billion in damages. Among other honors, Terri has received an Attorney of the Year award from California Lawyer magazine.
Terri received her undergraduate degree from the University of California at Berkeley and her law degree from the University of Chicago, where she served on the Law Review. She clerked for Judge Edward Becker of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
