Matt Detzel focuses his practice on business litigation and appeals. Matt has handled a variety of matters including contract disputes, enforcement of negotiable instruments, and suits involving intellectual property licensing and trade secret protection. He has also defended clients in regulatory compliance matters brought by local, state, and federal government bodies as well as tort actions brought by market competitors claiming fraud, tortious interference, unfair competition, and conversion.

Prior to practicing law, Matt worked as a network administrator and as a supervisor in charge of electronic payment processing for a large sales organization. Matt brings a deep understanding of and enthusiasm for technology to his practice from his IT background that enables him to help clients overcome many of the challenges posed by the digital age. To this end, he is proficient with using cutting edge tools and techniques for eDiscovery and information governance to help achieve satisfactory results for clients when litigation is necessary. Matt also devotes time to maintaining familiarity with emerging technologies, innovations, and developments that could impact the businesses of clients, so he can offer practical advice that might help clients avoid future liability.

Notable Work

Insurance Fraud: 

Represented client and obtained summary judgment on automobile insurance carrier’s claims of fraud, unjust enrichment, and violations of Florida’s Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act in action brought in federal district court for millions of dollars in payments made to medical clinics operating with fraudulently-obtained licenses. 

Contract Claims: 

Represented client and obtained summary judgment on client wholesaler’s contract claims against regional reseller as well as reseller’s counterclaims for tortious interference and fraudulent inducement concerning nearly $1 million worth of inventory procured in bad faith by reseller on short-term credit facility.


Represented public energy utility client and guided investigation, evaluation, and response to possible data breach incident.
