Charles Lee Mudd Jr. is the founder and principal of Mudd Law Offices. Over the last fifteen years, Mr. Mudd has developed a broad-based practice representing local, national, and international clientele in diverse litigation and transactional matters. Of particular relevance, Mr. Mudd has become internationally known on issues of intellectual property, privacy, and technology. On such issues, he has appeared in state and federal courts throughout the United States as well as argued before the Arizona Court of Appeals and United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. He also has filed two writs with the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Mudd has taught courses on these subjects at John Marshall Law School and the University of Connecticut School of Law.

Mr. Mudd is licensed to practice law in Illinois, Indiana, Connecticut and Utah. He is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth and Seventh Circuits. He is also admitted to the United States District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois, Central District of Illinois, Northern District of Indiana, Central District of Utah, Central District of Michigan, Northern District of Florida, and the District of Colorado.
Mr. Mudd graduated magna cum laude and fourth in his class from Quinnipiac University School of Law in 1997. During law school, he served as Lead Articles Editor for the Quinnipiac Law Review; co-created the Quinnipiac Law and Technology Association and served as its President, Vice-President and Treasurer; interned with the Honorable Alfred V. Covello, U.S. District Court Judge; and externed with the National Telecommunications and Information Administration in Washington, D.C.

After law school, Mr. Mudd served as a law clerk for the Honorable John T. Sharpnack, Chief Judge of the Indiana Court of Appeals of Indiana and the Honorable Alan H. Nevas, U.S. District Court Judge in Bridgeport, Connnecticut. After clerking for Judge Nevas, Charles joined Cummings & Lockwood, a full-service, mid- sized law firm in Connecticut, as a litigation associate in its Stamford, Connecticut office. He practiced in Cummings & Lockwood’s commercial litigation division and emerging technologies group.

Mr. Mudd regularly speaks on Internet, technology, privacy, defamation, and gaming law. He has presented at SXSW, ITechLaw, and multiple bar meetings internationally. He has appeared in national media including NPR and Rolling Stone Magazine. Charles has also been selected for inclusion in the Illinois edition of Super Lawyers since 2014. 

Apart from practicing law, Mr. Mudd has been an active member of the legal community. He serves as Co-Chair of the ITechLaw Social Media and Gaming Committee and as a member of the Illinois State Bar Association’s (“ISBA”) Business Advice and Financial Planning Section. He has also served as Chair of the ISBA’s Intellectual Property Section. Charles also is a founding member of the Internet Law Leadership Summit. He has served as Chair of the American Bar Association's Privacy and Computer Crime Committee; Vice-Chair of the Connecticut Bar Association's Computer Law Section; and Co-Chair of the Regional Bar Association's Internet Law Committee. He has also served on the Indiana State Bar Association's Committee on Law Practice Management and the Internet & Electronic Commerce Committee. He is a member of the American Bar Association, International Technology Law Association, Connecticut Bar Association, and the Indiana and Illinois State Bar Associations.
